Valencia Flouncy Skirt Pattern Testing

Become a tester for the Valencia pattern!

I’m looking for enthusiastic sewists to help me perfect my latest pattern, the Valencia Flouncy Skirt. Please review the pattern testing rules and sign yourself up to join the pattern testing team!

About the pattern
The Valencia Flouncy Skirt is a timeless wrap skirt that brings playful sophistication to any outfit. Its circular flounces are designed to add light movement and a touch of whimsy without overwhelming the silhouette, offering a wonderful alternative to the more traditional and heavy gathered ruffles. The skirt’s adjustable wrap ties are fed through a loophole at the waist to ensure perfect fit.

Pattern details:
  • Midi (knee-length) wrap skirt
  • Flares out into a loose and drapy look
  • Fits snugly at the hips
  • Intended to sit below the waist
  • Can be tied at the side or at the back
  • Adjustable fit thanks to the ties
  • Front “petal” overlap

This pattern is available in 9 sizes according to the below sizing chart.

It was designed and then graded based on size 12, with a height of 172cm (5’6″) and B/C Cup.

Fabric & Material Requirements
The Valencia Flouncy Skirt was conceived for non-stretch fabric. Fabric options include:
  • Polyester:  while it may raise eyebrows to go “synthetic”, this is my hands-down favorite fabric option for this skirt because it’s extremely lightweight, flowy and doesn’t crease.
  • Lightweight fabrics that have good draping (lightweight cotton such as batiste, rayon/viscose, crepe or satin)
  • Muslin fabric or seersucker for a more casual and summery look
Difficulty Level

I consider this project to suitable for confident beginners, suitable for those who already have some sewing experience. It can be sewn up in no time and doesn’t require any special equipment or notions.

This most challenging part of this project include: sewing back darts, doing a decorative topstitch (optional), doing a rolled hem (serger or sewing machine), sewing and opening a buttonhole.
