Delphi Neckholder Dress & Top

€8,99

Made for Wovens

The Delphi Dress & Top is a highly versatile halterneck slip-on garment with a lot going on in the best possible way. The neckline gathers softly at a high, collarbone-grazing halter that ties at the back of the neck, and a keyhole detail in the back. The silhouette is full, fluid and flowy, with a generous amount of ease from the bust down, meaning it works with your body and not against it!

The waist is where it gets versatile. You can cinch it with the thin cord tie included in the pattern; wrap it once or twice with the wider self-fabric belt for something a bit more dramatic; use a belt you already own, or you can skip the belt entirely and let the fabric do its thing. All four options give off an entirely different look.

This style has the following features:

  • Conceived for leightweight woven fabric
  • Choose between 1 top length and 3 dress lengths
  • Features a gathered neckline, and a keyhole in the back
  • Zipper-free design that ties in the back
  • Bias bound armholes and keyholes
  • Style it with a thin waist tie, a wraparound belt, or wear it loose

Everything you need to know

Suitable Fabrics

This pattern was conceived exclusively for woven fabric.

Best suited fabric options include: lightweight cotton, linen blends, viscose, satin or polyester blends. Aim for something lightweight to mid-weight, roughly 90–180 gsm. Anything heavier or less drapy may end up looking too stiff or too boxy.

Yardage

Between 1.35-1.75m (1.5-1.9yds) of woven fabric for the top version and between 2.30-2.95m (2.5-3.2yds) of woven fabric for the dress version

Seam Allowances

Seam allowances are included and are 1cm (3/8") everywhere including at the hem

Notions Needed

20mm wide bias binding (store-bought or home-made)

Sewing Tools

Scissors, iron, needles, thread, loop turner (or safety pin), pins, trick marker or chalk. Overlocker is completely optional.

What You'll Learn

This is considered a confident beginner pattern: few pattern pieces, woven fabric, no zip.

That said, this pattern contains a few important technical points that give it its unique design: you'll be sewing darts, finishing armholes and keyhole with bias binding, understitching, and gathering fabric. None of these techniques are difficult, and everything is explained clearly in the step-by-step instructions.

What will make or break your finish here is pressing. Your iron is doing at least half the work, and skipping it is how things end up looking homemade in the wrong way. No serger required: just a standard sewing machine and a good (steam) iron.

The story behind this sewing pattern

The name of the pattern gives it away: I was after the draped opulence of the “Greek goddess” look — the kind of dress that looks effortlessly thrown on, but also completely put together. You could wear it for a summer beach vacation or as an occasion dress — anything goes!

The Delphi Dress & Top is also one of the most bump-friendly garments you will ever sew. I can highly recommend it during a Spring/Summer pregnancy! I actually designed the Delphi Dress & Top at the beginning of my own pregnancy — as I wanted to create something roomy that would adapt to my growing bump — and I wore it up to my due date.
