Become a tester for the Casablanca pattern!
I’m looking for enthusiastic sewists to help me perfect my latest pattern, the Casablanca Palazzo Pants. Please review the pattern testing rules and sign yourself up to join the pattern testing team!
About the pattern
These ankle-length palazzo pants are cinched at the waist for a flattering silhouette, while an exaggerated wide-leg cut creates dramatic movement with every step.
An asymmetric side seam and a sultry side slit give the pants a daring edge, while the waistband provides both a tailored look and ultimate comfort with its adjustable, elasticated back.
This pattern is available in 2 views: View A (the original Casablanca Pants) was designed with a flounce, which gives additional length and fluidity. View B makes for a much quicker and fabric-saving sew, as it can be assembled without the flounce.
Pattern details:
- Fits snugly at the waist
- Flares out into a loose and drapy look
- Adjustable fit thanks to an elasticated back
- Twisted side seam
- Sultry side-slit either at thigh or calf-length
- Available in 2 views
This pattern is available in 9 sizes according to the sizing chart.
It was designed and then graded based on size D, with a height of 172cm (5’6″)
Fabric & Material Requirements
The Casablanca Palazzo Pants was conceived for non-stretch fabric.
Main fabric options include:
- Lightweight fabrics that have good draping (lightweight cotton such as lawn, batiste, rayon/viscose, crepe or satin)
- Polyester: while it may raise eyebrows to go “synthetic”, this is my hands-down favorite fabric option for this skirt because it’s extremely lightweight, flowy and doesn’t crease
- 1m of elastic (1cm width)
- Fusible interfacing for the waistband (70cm x 10cm / 14″ x 4″)
Difficulty Level
I consider this project to suitable for Intermediate Level sewists, or confident beginners looking to stretch their skills. suitable for those who already have some sewing experience. No special equipment is needed, but the project does involve multiple sewing skills that go beyond basic construction.
This most challenging part of this project include: applying fusible interfacing, gathering fabric, placing elastic in the waistband to create a smocked effect, and sewing a rolled hem (ideally on a serger, but can be done on a regular machine).
All techniques are explained in detail in the instruction booklet.
