This project is a great palate cleanser in between other projects (it takes less than 1 hour to complete!) and it’s the perfect scrap buster. And at the same time, you’re creating something practical that refreshes the look of your sewing/laundry room, and that will perhaps make you a little more eager to press your seams as a sewist!

With this FREE ironing board cover sewing pattern, you can sew yourself a new ironing board cover. It includes two sizes:
- Small: L 73 x W 32 cm
- This pattern variation has been designed based on the popular IKEA JÄLL compact ironing board but it will fit any compact ironing board with similar dimensions.
- Large: L 120 x W 38 cm
- This pattern variation has been designed based on the IKEA DÄNKA full-size ironing board but will fit any full-size ironing board with similar dimensions.

This project is perfect for beginner sewists with some basic experience.
It revolves around one technique which is sewing bias binding to form a tunnel for a drawstring. It’s an excellent project to practice this technique while not worrying about perfection (because the bias binding is fully hidden!).
Materials Required
Suitable Fabrics
Best-suited fabrics for this project should be cotton (which is heat resistant and breathable). Look for a tightly woven durable cotton fabric with a smooth surface such as quilting cotton or cretonne.
- Fabric Requirement: between 0.5m - 1.35m depending on size and grain direction.
- Notions: 2.5 - 3.5m bias tape & drawstring
- Sewing tools: Regular sewing supplies (matching thread, pins, cissors, etc.)
