About the Marbella Mini Skirt

If you thought you were going to have to mess around with a zipper, I have great news for you: this mini skirt sewing pattern is a wrap-skirt, which eliminates the need for a zipper!

The closure is achieved with two buttons: one button is hidden on the inside, and another pivot button is part of a decorative button placket on the overlapping front panel.

You can sew this skirt in a lighter fabric (such as cotton or linen) or denim for a more casual look, or go really fancy with more sophisticated fabric choices such as a lovely herringbone tweed or a Chanel-looking bouclé — the choice is yours!

Sizing

This pattern is available in 9 sizes up to Bust Circumference 120cm (46″) and Hip Circumference 127cm (49″)
Check out the product pictures for the Sizing Chart and make sure to check out my Sizing Guide for some additional tips on how to chose the right size and ensure the best garment fit for your project.

Use your closest Hip measurement to determine the base size. You can always make the fit at the waist narrower or looser by playing around with the position of the hidden button. This will, of course, be explained in detail in the sewing step-by-step!

This garment was designed and then graded based on a size D, with a height of 172cm (5’6″) and B/C Cup. The skirt sits 3-4 cm below the waist (mid-waist) is around 46cm in length (mini) — instructions to shorten or lengthen the skirt are provided!

Difficulty Level
Intermediate

With this pattern, and thanks to the in-depth explanations in the instructions booklet, you will learn to master the following techniques:

  • sewing a fully lined skirt with back darts (no zipper!)
  • choosing the right fabric for both main fabric and lining
  • pressing and understitching lining
  • applying buttons and buttonholes

I consider this project suitable for Intermediate Level sewists or confident beginners who are eager to challenge themselves. Working a fully lined garment (with two sets of mirrored pattern pieces) requires attention to detail, as does the process of selecting the most appropriate placement for your buttons and buttonholes!
