About the Koh Lanta Pants & Shorts

The Koh Lanta Wide-Leg Pants are designed to make you feel amazing: with a flattering snatched waist and loose and comfy wide-legs. This pattern was born from my own frustration of ill-fitting palazzo pants that gathered in awkward and unflattering ways at the front and back — so I created my own version of a classic and timeless wide-leg pants sewing pattern!

Your fabric choice transforms these pants entirely: use linen, viscose, or crepe for a sophisticated, business-casual look, or opt for lightweight cotton, viscose, or gauze for the ultimate comfy lounge pants or even stylish sleepwear.

From the photos:

  • The green pants are made in a soft muslin/gauze (130g/m²) — perfect for relaxed, airy lounge wear
  • The terracotta version uses a luxurious viscose/linen blend (180g/m²) for an office appropriate look
  • The paperbag shorts are sewn in 100% viscose/rayon (130g/m²) for a lightweight, fluid feel

This pattern can be made using your regular sewing machine but will be perfect if you have an overlocker!

Sizing

This pattern is available in 13 sizes up to Waist Circumference 126cm (49″) and Hip Circumference 147cm (57″)
Check out the product pictures for the Sizing Chart and make sure to check out my Sizing Guide for some additional tips on how to chose the right size and ensure the best garment fit for your project.

Use your closest Waist measurement to determine the base size. You can always adjust the fit by grading between sizes if your measurements span across one or more sizes on the chart. This will, of course, be explained in detail in the sewing step-by-step!

This garment was designed and then graded based on a size D, with a height of 172cm (5’6″).

Difficulty Level
Confident Beginner

With this pattern, and thanks to the in-depth explanations in the instructions booklet, you will learn to master the following techniques:

  • sewing slant side pockets (optional)

I consider this project to suitable for Confident Beginners eager to learn to sew their first pair of pants, and curious about simple pant pattern customization techniques. The project can be sewn entirely on a sewing machine.
